the presets tribute

the best concert I attended last year was when the presets played at øyanatt. it was such a magic evening and never have I danced so hard and sung so loud. simply, it was the most fun I had in ages. if you have the chance to go to one of their concerts you should definitely take that chance. I am really longing for the summer now, and hope it will bring with it more concerts of that kind. here are the videos to some of my favourite presets songs, but my absolute favourite one: beams, I couldnt find the video for (but you should check out that one too in case you havent heard it).

enjoy!

patrick wolf / hard times / vulture / prepare to be flabbergasted

"Hard Times" gives us, if you can imagine, an even more theatrical Patrick Wolf. Here he manages to paint a picture for us the clearest he's ever been able, he might as well be standing center stage in a Broadway show delivering some direct monologue to the audience. It is what good theater should be: captivating, over the top, dramatically sitting at the cutting edge. I suppose if you had to imagine where Patrick Wolf would have taken his sound next you might have guessed "bigger, louder, more expansive" etc... and in this case, you'd be right. But would you ever imagine a group of choral singers shouting "Revolution!" -- I like this new direction, even if it's moving in all of them.

Keep keeping us on our toes, Mr. Wolf. You're hitting the nail on the head. The Bachelor is out June
I guess I am floating (where you can also download the song)

here is also vulture. the first single from the record

I am so in love with his new album (even though I havent heard all of it yet!) that with the sole exception of sleep all I do is listen to the few songs I have managed to download from it.

I have talked about bandstocks on the blog before and how he is releasing this album with the funding of his fans, and how disappointed I was that I found myself unable to invest since I am a non-uk resident. But they fixed it! It is now possible to invest even as a non-uk citizen. You just sign up on his website right here. I even got a paypal account just for this. I am such a hardcore fan.

but fuck. no wonder. he is such a genious.

christmaspictures and christmasvideos

okey, with this cutest/dorkiest slideshowpicturesofreindeer-video I (might) bring you the/a feeling of christmas:
I am not such a terrible christmasromantic, really. dont know what got into me lately.

maybe it's all the snow (its three times this amount now):

maybe its the fact that I get to be around the coolest kid all the time: (OBS! not my own, my sister's)

maybe its because I spent weeks before december started making this thing for my sister, her boyfriend and eskil:

1st of december I had made a christmasmix for them, a couple of the songs on it was:
Badly Drawn Boy - Donna & Blitzen (video above)

last years christmas song by the raveonettes. a true hit in denmark. (this is not the greatest video either unfortunately)
The Raveonettes - The Christmas Song

Rosemary Clooney, Tony Randall & Tab Hunter - I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm

I want nothing but the love of the next stranger who walks through that door

My style is bom-diddi-bom di-dang di-dang diggi-diggi

It sure is Robyn!
Now this is not the first Robyn post on this blog and it won't be the last. It's pretty obvious that this girl has syle, swagga style.
I'm not crazy about the song but because she always looks so amazing and cute - she gets one more post.

randy and my take on them

one of my all-time favourite bands RANDY, came to play here last weekend. after having had a pause for a couple of years they are now playing lots of shows around sweden. even though it was the 5. or 6. time I saw them live, it felt like something completely new this time. perhaps because I thought devastatingly they wouldnt play any more shows and was angry as fuck when I realized I couldnt come watch their "last" show in Umeå when they played Umeå Open in 2006. (I was stuck in Iceland..afraid of flying). but now a couple of years later, in Umeå, I got to see them again and it was THE concert of the year. at least.

I have made a few coverversions of two of their songs. one can be found on my myspace. and another I have put here for free downloading

I dont necessarily think my covers do them any justice so I think you should listen to the original songs in stead.

here are a couple of musicvideos with them, (although not the ones I have covered)

I have talked to some guys up here that play real instruments about making a coverband (for fun), playing randy covers. I hope I get the time to go through with it. right now school is up to my ears.

girl and the sea

The last few days I have listened a lot to Ascii Disko remix of "I go hard I go home" originally by the Presets. You can find that and many other great Presets songs and remixes on hypem.

I decided to check out their videos today,
and flabbergasted I was.

There is something so delicately beautiful and fragile about the girl and the sea video. And the lyrics are simply breathtaking.

Extracts from lyrics:

no place,
some time
we'll clear
our eyes
and when
you're down
i'll come around

a place
I've found
could be
all ours
but I've seen
where you
would rather be.

Are you the one?

I think I am allowed to

be a little bit in love with both the guy and the girl in this tribute video to MGMTs song kids.

handle her?

robyn is wonderful. when I first truly fell in love with her voice and her music and her lyrics was while being on a bus between reykjavik and hafnarfjurdur in 2005. of course I had heard of her and her music for many, many years, and I always admired her as a person (having watched interviews with her on norwegian and swedish music tv-shows), but not before that busride while on my way to hafnarfjurdur did her voice and her music get to me. I can not remember why it was on my ipod, but somehow it was, and it was perfect. this trip to hafnarfjurdur was something I practised regularly and every time I would listen to robyn while driving through the pretty, pretty landscape, and houses. so therefore when I hear these songs, I am taken back to my very happy days living in iceland. being on that bus. alone. just me, robyn, the bus, the landscape. good times.

a few days ago I stumbled upon robyns new videos along with her "new" (old now really, but new to me), & extremely beautiful ballad version of be mine.

have a look at the gorgeously styled video where robyn is wearing jeremy scotts crazy creations while inventingly climbing around inside boxes. it is very hot. very hot indeed.

Robyn - Handle me

Robyn has also very recently released an alternate version with a video for her "be mine" song. so now there exists two videos for the song. it is an interesting thing to do. very smart. wise girl that robyn, or the people around and behind her. she's got great taste as well. notice her hair, dress and shoes at the beginning. flawless. the dress is made by Nhu Duong (which is attending or has attended Beckmans School of Design).

Robyn - Be Mine

I will also toss in the video to with every heartbeat, which is a wonderful, wonderful song.

while we're at it. here is Be Mine in a ballad version.

I have also, since I was 12, (and accidentally had cut my hair in the exact same hairdo as robyns), been told I look very much like her. I somehow unintentionally managed to change my hairdos for several years and years so they would exactly look like hers. I remember finding that troubling. it was not like i went to the hairdresser and said: make me look like robyn. it just happened. i got a cut, next time i saw her on tv, she had the same. strangely enough. and i doubt that my hairdressers did it on purpose either.. well who knows. perhaps they did. I turned dark when I was 18, and havent really heard it since. in a way I miss it. her hairdo as of now is rad. and i love it. makes me actually want to cut my hair like hers again. but for the first time, on purpose.

(I found this picture on the blog of the director of many of her videos: Fredrik Skogkvist)

It turns out as inspecting youtube closer, that there are alternate versions to almost all her videos. go have a look yourself if you are even more curious. different videos for different market segments. wise girl. again. very wise.
