He is without a doubt one of my favorite designers. His clothes are so strong, futuristic, beautiful and brilliant.
I am deeply in love with the FW 07/08 collection and his SS 08 collection. I love the big shoulders and his use of color. I admire him and his work highly. And I am not the only one. He has a bunch of fans and is said to be a genious in the fashion business (yes, he is). Nicolas Ghesquiere (Balenciaga) is also a huge fan and has said that he only wears Margiela.
"Martin Margiela (born April 9, 1957 in Leuven, Belgium) is a Belgian fashion designer. He studied at Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, graduated 1980 and worked as a freelance designer for five years after graduation. Between 1985 and 1987 he worked for Jean Paul Gaultier, before showing his first collection under his own label in 1988. "

Fabulous Roisin
Is indeed fabulous. Her style is divine and so is her voice. I have always been a big fan of moloko and Roisin Murphy.
Her previous solo album "Ruby Blue" (2005) was experimental and brilliant. With her new album (overpowered) she has gone a bit more pop/dance/electronic but is still absolutely lovely. I, Gaia Melanie am simply in love with it. Right now it's the only thing I hear on my ipod (that has 7000songs). Okay, maybe it's not the only thing I listen to. But I do listen to it every day and it makes me oh so very happy.
Not to mention her always amazing music videos. "Sow into you" is one of my favorite. Directed by Simon Henwood that also directed "If we'r in love" and "Let Me Know" from the "Overpowered" album.
With her new album (overpowered 2007) she has so far made two fantastic music videos.
"Overpowered" is a brilliant video by Jamie Thraves. Where she is wearing Gareth Pugh and looks amazing. The dress, coat, shoes and hat are just perfais.
Her second video "Let Me Know" is another great video directed by Simon Henwood. She is wearing pieces from the genious Maison Martin Margiela FW 07/08 collection. And if i'm not mistaken a Gareth Pugh see-through cape. And again: A beautiful, beautiful hat.
If I were to have someone elses wardrobe I would without a doubt have hers!
A few photos from her new album Overpowered
Wearing Sandra Backlund incredible knitted creation
Wearing insane beauitful Gareth Pugh
Wearing Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy Haute Couture (AMAZING - MY FAV)

Vincent my love
This is my favorite video by Tim Burton.
I have no words for how much I love it. It is just so wonderful!
It reminds me how much I miss being a kid and how much I still am a kid. Day dreaming about vampires and ghosts. Looking underneath my bed after watching a thriller on telly. Imagining the trees being monsters, when I take a walk in the park at night.
Also I LOVE the music in the film. All in all the film is just brilliant.
And I belive it was the first short film by Tim Burton and if not the first, then one of his first.

love will tear us apart
yes it will.
and this video and this version of this song is true brilliance.
I can not explain to you in words how much I adore this video's maker (director/camera/edit), the multiartist, Kim Hiorthøy.
(he has written one of my favourite books, he makes the most wonderful music, he is a graphic designer, a director, a performance artist, artist. you name it. and he does it all well even. I will probably get back to him more later. he is what sets the shingingly bright example of: "yes you can do it all".)
but onwards about the song.
sung and interpreted by the wonderful Susanna & the Magical Orchestra.
oh those norwegians, those norwegians. they sure know how to do it.
and before i get too cocky,
I will just shut up and bring you this treat of a song.
btw. joy divisions love will tear us apart is a well covered song, with many lovely interpretations.
worth mentioning are also:
-nouvelle vague's version
-worm is green's interpretation of it
-in my library there was also one by calexico, but I am not so sure if that one is worth mentioning after all.
-and then you should listen to the recent remix of the original song. the remix by arthur baker.

handle her?
robyn is wonderful. when I first truly fell in love with her voice and her music and her lyrics was while being on a bus between reykjavik and hafnarfjurdur in 2005. of course I had heard of her and her music for many, many years, and I always admired her as a person (having watched interviews with her on norwegian and swedish music tv-shows), but not before that busride while on my way to hafnarfjurdur did her voice and her music get to me. I can not remember why it was on my ipod, but somehow it was, and it was perfect. this trip to hafnarfjurdur was something I practised regularly and every time I would listen to robyn while driving through the pretty, pretty landscape, and houses. so therefore when I hear these songs, I am taken back to my very happy days living in iceland. being on that bus. alone. just me, robyn, the bus, the landscape. good times.
a few days ago I stumbled upon robyns new videos along with her "new" (old now really, but new to me), & extremely beautiful ballad version of be mine.
have a look at the gorgeously styled video where robyn is wearing jeremy scotts crazy creations while inventingly climbing around inside boxes. it is very hot. very hot indeed.
Robyn - Handle me
Robyn has also very recently released an alternate version with a video for her "be mine" song. so now there exists two videos for the song. it is an interesting thing to do. very smart. wise girl that robyn, or the people around and behind her. she's got great taste as well. notice her hair, dress and shoes at the beginning. flawless. the dress is made by Nhu Duong (which is attending or has attended Beckmans School of Design).
Robyn - Be Mine
I will also toss in the video to with every heartbeat, which is a wonderful, wonderful song.
while we're at it. here is Be Mine in a ballad version.
I have also, since I was 12, (and accidentally had cut my hair in the exact same hairdo as robyns), been told I look very much like her. I somehow unintentionally managed to change my hairdos for several years and years so they would exactly look like hers. I remember finding that troubling. it was not like i went to the hairdresser and said: make me look like robyn. it just happened. i got a cut, next time i saw her on tv, she had the same. strangely enough. and i doubt that my hairdressers did it on purpose either.. well who knows. perhaps they did. I turned dark when I was 18, and havent really heard it since. in a way I miss it. her hairdo as of now is rad. and i love it. makes me actually want to cut my hair like hers again. but for the first time, on purpose.
(I found this picture on the blog of the director of many of her videos: Fredrik Skogkvist)
It turns out as inspecting youtube closer, that there are alternate versions to almost all her videos. go have a look yourself if you are even more curious. different videos for different market segments. wise girl. again. very wise.
