photo of the day (beware:long post)

Jamie Livingston (25 October 1956-25 October 1997) was a New York-based photographer, film-maker and circus performer who from March 31, 1979 through to the day of his death on October 25, 1997 took a Polaroid photograph every day.
Livingston's 'Polaroid a Day' photographic diary started at Bertelsmann Campus Center at Bard College and though some photos have gone missing from the collection, 6,697 Polaroids remain. The collection, dated in sequence, has been organized by his friends Hugh Crawford and Betsy Reid into an exhibit at Bard College called "JAMIE LIVINGSTON. PHOTO OF THE DAY: 1979-1997", which opened in 2007.

I have been surfing around on the page now for quite a while, looking through the personal everyday pictures of someone I don't know. I downloaded some to upload here because the page is suffering from bad bandwith. it keeps crashing because it cant hold the amount of people who visit it. I sure hope they will fix it soon. but sillily of me I cant remember the dates of the pictures I downloaded. it is much more fun when you can see the year and date.

some of the pictures are missing, but not really that many. mostly in the beginning.. I decided to check out what he was doing the day I was born. I thought to myself, hah, it would be so typical if the picture from that day was missing. (there were nearly no other pictures from that time missing), and of course it was. missing! hopefully you will have more luck when looking for what he was doing that perticular day in time you came to the world.

his pictures are funny, beautiful, quirky, and to say the least, interesting! it kind of appeals to the big brother instinct in me.
to be able to see what someone did every single day for 18 years. days who so quickly are mixed together in ones memory will for him be so detailedly described. it'll be like. "hmmm.. what did i do the 25. may in 1992?" and he can look at the polaroid and it'll be like: "right! that was the day when we went to "nameofplacegoeshere" and Ryan put on that helmet and he told this joke while inside the helmet, and I remember we were laughing so much about it.." (I am making up here.. but you get my point)

I also find his pictures of the tv quite amusing. he likes baseball a lot.

some other ones I liked:

towards the end they become very sad as he is in the hospital right before he dies from cancer at the age of 41. (I didn't include any of those here but have a look for yourself) there is even a picture from the day he died. I haven't dared to look at it yet.

here is the link to the website, be patient, I think they will fix the bandwidth soon.
